A caste census has been requested for the Union Territory by senior Congress politician and former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy.
Speaking at a news conference held here, he claimed that although his government had requested permission from the then-Lt. Governor to conduct a caste census in the Union Territory, the permission had not been granted. The Congress administration had even allotted money to complete the census task. “Now that an alliance government is in place, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. He may secure consent for a caste count.
